MBTA's airport subway service to be impacted by April service changes (2024)

MBTA Blue Line subway service from Boston to Logan Airport and Wonderland will be impacted by service changes in April. The service changes were announced by the MBTA this week, and will also affect portions of the Silver, Orange, and Red MBTA subway lines. Service changes will also impact the Kingston, Middleborough, Greenbush, Haverhill, and Newburyport/Rockport commuter rail lines. Blue Line changesBlue Line service will be suspended between Bowdoin and Orient Heights stations beginning at approximately 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 9 through the end of service each day until Thursday, April 11.Shuttle buses will make stops between Government Center and Orient Heights. Blue Line service will be suspended between Maverick and Wonderland for three days from Wednesday, April 17 through Friday, April 19 and between Airport and Wonderland for nine days from Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 28.The service changes do not impact any travelers using the Blue Line to get to or from Boston's Logan Airport during Boston Marathon weekend. The MBTA says the service changes are part of the MBTA’s Track Improvement Program. Crews will perform track and tie replacement work with the goal of removing speed restrictions on the Blue Line, along with infrastructure upgrades, and station amenity upgrades like new lighting, painting, tiling and power washing. Red LineRed Line service will be suspended between Broadway and Ashmont stations on the Ashmont Branch and between Broadway and North Quincy stations on the Braintree Branch during the weekend of March 30-31 as well as the weekend of April 6-7.Free and accessible shuttle buses will make all stops between Broadway and Ashmont / North Quincy.The MBTA says the service change is in place to allow crews to perform necessary work as part of the Dorchester Avenue Bridge Replacement Project.That same construction project will also impact weekend commuter rail service on the Kingston, Middleborough, and Greenbush Commuter Rail lines between South Station and Braintree Station.Haverhill Commuter Rail LineHaverhill Commuter Rail Line service will be suspended between Ballardvale and North Station during the weekend of April 6-7 and for nine days from April 20-28, according to the MBTA.The MBTA says free shuttle buses will replace train service between Reading and Oak Grove where passengers can connect to Orange Line subway.
