The Neighborhood
Flatbush is a vibrant, densely populated neighborhood centered on aptly named Flatbush Avenue. The western border is roughly along the tracks for the Q-Line, with Rogers Avenue to the east. Avenue while Troy Avenue is to the east. Parkside and Clarkson Avenues mark the northern edge of the neighborhood while the south is a mixture of Dorchester Road and Foster Avenue.

Flatbush, Brooklyn, was originally inhabited by the Lenape Native Americans. Dutch colonizers arrived in the area in the early 17th century and named it "Vlacke Bos" which means "flat woodland" in Dutch, due to the area's topography of flat land and dense forest. Over time, it was anglicized into Flatbush. The area was primarily agricultural until the mid-19th century, when it began to urbanize and expand. Today, Flatbush is a diverse and vibrant neighborhood with a rich history and numerous cultural offerings, including the annual West Indian Carnival Parade.

The Flatbush Reformed Church is also a major attraction for its historic architecture and Dutch influence, with its stained-glass windows and gothic details. The Kings Theatre, a magnificent theater built in 1929, is a hub for live entertainment and cinema screenings. Prospect Park, one of the largest parks in New York City, is also located nearby and offers plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities, including jogging, biking, and picnicking. Another attraction in Flatbush is the Caribbean-American culture, which is celebrated at the annual Labor Day Carnival Parade and is reflected in the neighborhood's vibrant food scene.
Flatbush, Brooklyn has been home to many famous individuals throughout history. Notable musicians who hail from the neighborhood include MC Lyte, who was the first female solo rapper to release a full album, and Busta Rhymes, who has released numerous hit songs throughout his career. Additionally, Flatbush has produced several professional athletes, such as Bernie Williams, a former outfielder for the New York Yankees, and Michael Bentt, a former professional boxer. The neighborhood has also been home to several actors and actresses, including Isaiah Washington, who has appeared in several hit TV shows and movies, and Maggie Gyllenhaal, who has been nominated for multiple awards for her roles in films such as "Crazy Heart" and "The Dark Knight." Flatbush's diverse community has produced many talented individuals who have gone on to achieve great success in their respective fields.
